Hip Hip Hooray the sun was shining today. BB and Nanny came for Easter lunch and some of us (if not all of us Louis!) were keen to do some family potato planting in celebration.
Dad dug the trenches for our chitted Pots and the boys put the Pots in and tried to cover them over with soil. Neil was Easter Bunny and the boys went off at full pelt to find the chocolate eggs around the plot. Louis on a higher level zipping all over the place whilst Sammy wandering around munching away with everything going on around him, taking it all in.
Neil and I dug over some of the soil again and we covered the Beetroot with the poly tunnel to help save them from the devil slugs when the young leaves begin to show. I fully expect it to take weeks and weeks what with this cold slow start to the year but I am still excited about it all coming up!
Lovely to have everyone up there and see things about to happen, I think it really is food for the soul as well as the plate.

bucket load of weeds
Popped up today after crap weather lately of sleet, hail, rain, teeny bit sun and freezing cold and foggy other days. The sun shone and I had the urge to get out.
The plot looks great on the surface as we already dug a few weeks ago but dig again and you get a bucket load of weeds. Very satisfying! The soil is probably too wet to dig but you have to do it when you get the chance and Easter holidays are looming so it is now or wait two weeks. The soil clung to the fork in big clumps but with some work the weed roots came out. My course on Monday had me indentifying weeds in a test so that was interesting for me.
I planted some Beetroot in the hope they may come up for some salad at some point, yum.
Rain looming so after an hour it was time to pop off again til I drag the boys out to plant our first early Potatoes.
