A sunny day and 8 degrees no less so whilst Sammy went to a pirate party (first party alone) we took Lou up the plot to dig. We dug over the soil and took out what seemed like hundreds of roots and used some wooden planks from my friend Deb (thanks Deb) for walking on. Louis got stuck in then thought better of it and started throwing a tennis ball around (at my head and at Daddy mostly). I gave him the task of taking photos which he did very happily and took some good ones.
All we have in at the moment are the Raspberry canes from last year so I have been planning what to grow. I want to try Peas this year so we bought a small poly tunnel which we put up to start warming the soil. I also want to try Butternut Squash and Beetroot.
Sammy wants an Apple Tree but we have said they can be quite expensive and we may have to do jobs to save the money for one! He is really keen to grow our own and loves Apples.
The first early Potatoes are trying to chit in the lean-to but light hasn't been great until today so it is slow progress.
When we left I felt a huge sense of Spring around the corner. I get this every year and remember we have to go back to rain and cold again before the 'Proper" Spring as we know it arrives. Still, whether it is here to stay or not, the sunshine most certainly made me feel better and digging over soil is extremely rewarding in preparation for the real deal.
