Sammy said to me last year, "Mummy if we have an apple tree then we won't need to go to Tesco's again". Well if only that were true but I did say I would get him a tree and so I finally have.
Sammy is much better but still has a cough and is weary so he stayed off school for another day. We popped to the plot to plant our apple tree! The area needed a good dig and clear and Sammy was great at finding roots to clear and snails to play with. We dug a hole, filled it with water "Geronimo" Sammy said and pretended to dive in. We planted it, watered it again and put a stone circle round it.
Here's to at least one apple as I promised to send Stan one at my College in thanks for selling the tree to us!

stir crazy
Following an unexpected weekend in Hospital with a poorly Sammy, I managed to escape to my last College day ever, think I'm now qualified (!) and Neil had been in with a recovering Sammy all day and was going crackers. He popped up to water the plot and be free for an hour.
Things are looking great and it seems from the pictures Neil took, that someone has kindly mown the grass and left two pots of Courgette or similar on the ground for us! I cut the grass with shears last week but it def. looks like it has been cut again. Thank you mystery helper!
The beets are a gorgeous colour with a streak of deep red across the leaves and the Raspberries are lush looking. An odd Jerusalem Artichoke is poking up amongst the potatoes, a stray left over from last year.
It looks wonderful and myself and a recovering Sammy are going up tomorrow to plant an apple tree that I purchased from my lovely Horticulture teacher Stan, today, my last day at Lackham. I shall miss you Lackham, a sad day indeed. My Lecturer Carl did say I could take the boys in the holidays to show them the grounds and the Tropical House so I might just do that. Sammy wanted to grow apples and the tree will be a constant reminder of my wonderful year of RHS.

time and space
A windy and damp day today so perfect for gardening in my opinion! I had a day to choose what to do today.
N had gone to london with the car keys which was great actually because I had to slow down and think about doing something locally. I decided to tidy up the plot. My God it has gotten overgrown but I hacked and dug and cleared a bit. I weeded and moved some Poppies over to a clear bed and you can really see stuff coming together now.
Beets are looking great as are the Raspberries and the Garlic smells wonderful when you weed around it. The Squashes, Courgettes and Pumpkins seem to be slow in taking off but the Peas are really going now.
The Pots have some flowers peeking through the foliage so they are loving the rain. There is plenty of space for more so I will soon bring some Tommies up from home and put them in with canes.
A visit to Aunty Cynth yesterday and I got some lovely ornamental grass which is in my bed at home, trying to re-create the veg patch at home into a wild area with bench for relaxing. Gardening is on my mind all the time at the mo and so lovely to have time and space to be at the plot under no pressure. Bliss.
